About me…

The son of a pastor, I left home for college in 1974 intending to follow in my father’s footsteps. Due to theological doubt and inward waywardness, I opted instead for the pursuit of medicine, earning a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1984. Since then, I have worked as an internal medicine physician in outpatient, emergency, and hospital settings. Along the way, I sought and found answers to my faith questions and recommitted myself to the Lord’s calling. I am now an ordained minister and have served twenty-five years in Alabama churches as a bivocational music and worship leader. Since 2014, my ministry focus has been Four Friends International, a medical missions organization that operates three medical clinics in Jalapa, Guatemala. During the past five years I have kept a promise to myself to study biblical Hebrew and Greek, taking a series of language courses at a Southern Baptist seminary.

Cathy and I are the proud parents of two daughters, Mary Catherine and Allison, and doting grandparents of six amazing children (ages four to fourteen). We reside in Homewood, Alabama and are members of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, where I serve as a Life Group teacher, Sanctuary Choir tenor, and as assistant director of the Dawsonaires (a senior adult choir).
